Social Responsibility

Rain Cements Ltd. (RCL), our manufacturer of the Priya Cement line of products, works consistently towards elevating not only the lives of its employees and their families, but also the lives of members of underprivileged sections of society living near our plants. The company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives are mainly focused on three areas: Health, Education and Developmental Initiatives.

Here is a glimpse of some of RCL’s many efforts and contributions geared towards improving the lives of our neighbors living in the communities surrounding our locations, including by providing better health care services and quality education, by undertaking rural development initiatives and by doing our part to create a greener environment in the communities where we work and live together, side by side.

Health & Environment

Unit I, Ramapuram, Suryapet District, Telangana, India:

To provide better health care, RCL has established a free bed hospital, Priya Cement Free Primary Hospital, in Ramapuram village, which is manned by qualified M.B.B.S. doctors, lab technicians, and male and female nurses. The hospital has an ambulance facility and also provides Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water to patients and attendants..

The following health care services are provided at the hospital:

  • Treatment of chronic cases such as hypertension, osteoarthritis, bronchial asthma and dermatological conditions.
  • Treatment of acute cases such as typhoid and viral fevers, jaundice, gastroenteritis, urinary infections, etc.
  • Minor surgical procedures, such suturing, and 24x7 provision of nebulization and oxygen for emergencies.
  • Counselling provided by doctors to alcohol and tobacco addicts, including health education. Parents are advised on all-round upbringing of their children with regard to nutrition and health.
  • In 2016, close to 54,000 patients were treated at Priya Cement Free Primary Hospital.

Unit II, Sreepuram, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India:

RCL has undertaken the following health-related initiatives for communities in proximity to the Sreepuram plant:

  • Providing medical & health care and free ambulance services, through its Priya Cement Free Primary Hospital, to the surrounding villages close to its Sreepuram unit.
  • Conducting a medical camp on the premises of its Sreepuram unit.
  • Donating an alcohol breath analyzer to the Motor Vehicle Inspector in Dhone.
  • Organizing free health check-ups, distributing medicines, conducting various medical tests using advanced equipment and providing ambulance services, benefitting as many as 28,789 individuals.

Education

Unit I, Ramapuram, Suryapet District, Telangana, India:

Realizing that education is an extremely important factor in the all-around development of communities, RCL established the Priya Educational Academy in 1985, with classes from lower kindergarten to Grade III. In 1987, the school was expanded up to Grade VII. Then, in 2005, this educational institute became a fully-fledged high school with the introduction of classes up to Grade X, recognized as an English medium school by the Government of Telangana.

Here are some more highlights on the practices and achievements of Priya Educational Academy:

  • RCL’s management has recruited well-qualified teachers and non-teaching staff with regular trainings conducted for teachers and the principal.
  • Financial assistance and scholarships are offered to needy and meritorious students.
  • There are consistent efforts to reduce the dropout rate among students and to encourage them to continue with college education. From 2005 to 2015, the school has successfully achieved 100% result in SSC examination.
  • In 2009-2010, one of our students ranked 75th in IIT.
  • In the academic year 2014-2015, one of our students achieved an all-India 10th rank in the CA-CPT examination.

Unit II, Sreepuram, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India:

RCL is dedicated to the cause of local education at its Sreepuram unit, recognizing that education is one of the key factors to the all-around development of communities.

Below are a few of the RCL's notable initiatives in the space of education at the Sreepuram unit:

  • Providing solar inverters to B.C. Boys Hostel in Racherla.
  • Providing education to children in nearby villages through Priya Cement High School; the school recognized, and provided scholarships to, 15 meritorious students. These initiatives were continued in 2015.
  • Benefitting 750 students from the nearby villages of Racherla, Boincheruvupalli, Nareducherla and Laxmithanda through Priya Cement High School’s educational initiatives.
  • Offering numerous scholarships to all the meritorious students of Class X from Boincheruvupalli, Nareducherla and Racherla villages for their outstanding performance in intermediate education.

Developmental Initiatives

Underpinned by our commitment to improve and promote the environment in which we live and work, RCL regularly undertakes a wide range of CSR initiatives, which positively contribute to the overall development of the rural areas surrounding our production sites. In partnership with our local and regional communities, RCL is proud to promote and support the initiatives taken by district Collectors and by the Superintendent of Police to identify, adopt and support districts for development and growth.

Below are some highlights of RCL’s CSR efforts in the areas of rural development and caring for the environment:

Unit I, Ramapuram, Suryapet District, Telangana, India:

 

  • Undertaking forestation and tree planting activities under the Haritha Haram government-led programme.
  • Participation in recharging ground water levels through rain harvesting and pond digging projects under Mission Kakatiya, another government-led initiatives.
  • Promoting awareness and educating our communities regarding best practices on environmental issues.
  • Assisting in village development projects, including building and maintaining community-based infrastructure such as CC roads, temples, bridges, culverts, drains, water infrastructure and community centres through financial and material donations.
  • Donating Ac. 2.5 gts of land for expanding the premises of Maa Badi – a school in Ramapuram village for SC/ST children who are unable to attend regular school.
  • Donating Ac.4.00 gts of land for the construction of an Urdu school in Ramapuram village.

Unit II, Sreepuram, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India:

In our quest to contribute to the social and economic development of India and to the communities with whom we coexist, RCL has undertaken the following initiatives, in order to provide better living conditions to underprivileged sections of the society and to promote their improvement:

  • Supplying water to Boincheruvupalli village.
  • Contributing to Police Martyrs Welfare Activities.
  • Donating cement used in the construction of Kambagiri Swamy temple in Racherla, the fire station in Dhone, and the Revenue Building in Kurnool.
  • Supporting the repair work on the Social Welfare Hostels at Jaladurgam and Peapully.
  • Aiding the local police department in laying roads in Kappatralla village and in Boincheruvupalli village.

Unit III (No longer operational), Kuduthini, Bellary District, Karnataka, India:

RCL’s former packaging unit in the Bellary district of Karnataka has undertaken a mixed range of CSR activities for the betterment of the underprivileged sections of our neighbors in the society surrounding our plant, including the following:

  • Arranging a blood donation camp at Kuduthini village to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava Day, where doctors from VIMS hospital and Sanjeevani hospital in Toranagallu assisted in blood collection from donors.
  • Donating funds for organizing medical check-up programs to benefit needy villagers.
  • Providing monetary support for temple renovation in Thimmalapur.
  • Organizing Rang Kala Seva to educate village students.
  • Donating widely in various CSR activities in the areas around the Kuduthini unit.
